Eight years ago he replaced the metal fence at the front of his property with a 50-meter-long aquarium filled with aquatic life including hundreds of fish, sea breams, eels and octopuses. After getting the structure built, Mehmet linked his aquarium fence to the Aegean Seavia a 400 meters long buried pipeline. The entire undertaking set him back US $21, 000. Mehmet Ali Gökçeoğlu Villa and Visitors

Located just a few feet away from the shores of the Aegean Sea, Mehmet Ali Gökçeoğlu’s property has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Çeşme, attracting up to a thousand visitors a day, according to its owner. The villa itself is pretty impressive, but it’s not what draws so many people to this place. They come to see the aqua-fence. The businessman says just seeing people line up outside his house staring at his creation makes it all worth it.
Onlookers are welcome to check out the aquarium fence, though only from a distance. A word to the wise, Mehmet has installed a surveillance network consisting of 17 cameras complete with a facial recognition system. If an over excited visitor or a prospective vandal gets too close, the alarms will go off.
Mehmet’s property is now a major tourist destination, attracting up to thousand visitors every day to admire the wondrous fish fence. Whoever comes to see this cool, man-made structure are allowed to take pictures, or even film the aqua fence, but if they come too close, they risk setting off an alarm, and that would not be so pleasant.
So, in case you are planning a trip to Turkey, make sure you also stop in the city of Cesme, and see this cool aquarium fence, because it’s one of a kind.
